Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things (32-35), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, lost 6-5 to the Lake Erie Crushers (38-28).

Jacob Dempsey led the offense for the Wild Things, scoring in the second on Alan Robbins' sacrifice fly and hitting a solo homerun in the eighth. Washington also scored in the fifth when Brett Grandstrand stole second, putting him in position for Michael Parker's single.

The Crushers scored a run apiece in the fourth and eighth, with the first coming from Wayne Bond's RBI double. They did not take the lead until the ninth, when they scored four runs on a series of base hits to bring the score to 6-3.

Washington had a ninth inning rally of their own, scoring two runs with the bases loaded and two outs, but still fell short.

Dempsey and Grant Psomas of the Wild Things are tied for second place in the Frontier League in homeruns with 21 each. Dempsey hit tonight's homerun in the midst of a strong performance by Lake Erie reliever Ronnie Morales, who struck out six batters in 2.2 innings.

Pitcher Craig Snipp got no decision in a solid start, giving up one run in seven innings.

The Wild Things and Crushers play again tomorrow night at CONSOL Energy Park at 7:05 PM. Tickets can be purchased at the box office or at www.washingtonwildthings.com. Broadcast on WJPA 95.3 FM begins at 6:55.
