Wild Things Fall to Beach Bums 9-5

Washington, Pa - The Washington Wild Things (9-17), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, fell to the Traverse City Beach Bums 9-5 at CONSOL Energy Park Friday night.

Washington's first three runs were solo home runs. In fact, Wild Things' hitters scored the only two home runs Traverse City's RHP Brett Bostelman has allowed this season. Both Chris Raniere and Chris Sidick hit home runs again Bostelman. Raniere smacked a solo shot over the fence to give Washington an early lead in the first inning. And Sidick blew one over the right field wall in the fourth (Sidick's third of the season).

The Beach Bums scored two runs in the second inning when Patrick Perry drove in Brian Lapin and Mike Victor; then in the fourth Traverse City added another run when Robby Alcombrack plated Mike Victor, giving Traverse City a 3-1 lead.

After a 75 minute rain delay, Zach Groh returned to the mound, giving up a two run homer to Mike Epping.

Phil Laurent smacked a solo shot over the right field wall, bringing Washington back to within two.

Each team added a run in the seventh inning, keeping Washington's deficit at two.

Washington came up with one run in the eighth inning when Matt Sutton scored on a Phil Laurent double.

But Back to back to back insurance runs gave Traverse City a four run advantage the ninth inning. An advantage they would not relinquish.

Zach Groh (0-2) took the loss for Washington, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking three.

The Wild Things and Beach Bums meet for the rubber match Saturday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Air time on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 6:55.
