Rascals Use Six Run Seventh To Top Otters 10-6

EVANSVILLE, IN - The Rascals used a six run seventh inning to explode past the Otters 10-6 in Evansville on Thursday night. River City is now 4-0 this season against Evansville.

The Rascals (16-9) plated six runs in the seventh to break a 2-2 tie. Kevin Reynolds singled home two runs with the bases loaded and only one out. Chris Colton doubled down the left field line to plate two more for a 6-2 lead. Scott Robinson made it 8-2 with his fourth home run of the season, a two run shot over the right field fence.

Evansville (7-18) shut out the Rascals through the first five innings as Rashad Ford carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning. The Otters got on the scoreboard in the second on a throwing error by JoJo Batten. Kevin Mackey hit a groundball with one out to Batten at second, who threw the ball away for a 1-0 lead.

River City trailed 2-0 heading into the sixth and left the frame tied at two with Evansville. Scott Houin walked, stole second and advanced to third on a single by Reynolds. After Reynolds stole second, Robinson grounded out to short to plate the first run. Reynolds then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at two.

Tyler Musselwhite (3-2) lasted 6.1 innings, his longest outing of the season. Musselwhite allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits with four strikeouts.

The Otters plated four runs late with two each in the seventh and eighth innings to cut into the Rascals lead, but it wasn't enough.

Reynolds, Colton and Joe Billick had two hits each in the game with Robinson adding three runs batted in.

Brandon Dill (2-2) suffered his second loss after allowing the six runs in the seventh inning on five hits.

Ford earned a no-decision with six innings of two run ball on three hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

The Rascals and Otters meet tomorrow night at Bosse Field in game two of the three game set. Josh Lowey and Dustin Renfrow is the starting pitching matchup. Game time is at 7:05 p.m.
