Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa - The Eastern Division-leading Evansville Otters ( 17-8 ) scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie as the Washington Wild Things (16-9), presented by Washington Financial, fell to Evansville 3-0 in a Saturday night version of a classic battle for first-place in the East.

Wild Things' starter Shawn Blackwell pitched three innings of no-hit baseball until he surrendered a one-out single to right fielder CJ Henry in the fourth inning.

Additionally, in the same frame, left fielder Nick Schwaner followed up with an RBI single. The Otters added two more runs in the fourth, courtesy of a two-run homerun by one of the Frontier League's hottest hitters, Andrew Clark.

Evansville starter out-dueled Blackwell in a low-scoring affair, throwing six shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out three Wild Things' batters.

After a late-game exit by Blackwell, the Things' relief corps took over with reliever Alfonso Yevoli, who pitched one scoreless inning, and closer Orlando Santos, who shutdown the Otters in the ninth.

Threatening with runners on second and first in the bottom of the ninth, Eric Massingham, recorded his sixth save on the year.

The Wild Things top off a three-game series against the Evansville Otters at CONSOL ENERGY Park Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office or calling 724-250-9555.
