(Traverse City, MI) - Traverse City starting pitcher Scott Dunn came into game one on Friday of the three game series, not only unbeaten on the year, but perfect in his career against the Slammers.

After the Beach Bums (14-11) scored 12 runs on nine hits, beating Joliet (11-14) by a final of 12-2, Dunn remains undefeated on the year, improving his record to 5-0 remained perfect against Joliet.

Slammers' starter Corey Kimes fell to 2-3 on the season, picking up the loss, as it was all Traverse City for most of the game.

The Beach Bums struck first with two runs scoring in the bottom of the third inning. Ryan Still reached on a one-out walk and Taylor Wrenn reached safely after an error on Kimes.

With two on and one out, last year's Frontier League MVP Jose Vargus hit home the game's first run on a RBI single, scoring Still from second. Traverse City first baseman Chase Burch followed with a RBI single of his own, scoring Wrenn from second base, making it a 2-0 Beach Bums lead after three innings.

Joliet tied the ballgame after a scoreless fourth inning with two runs in the fifth inning. Jerod Yakubik reached on a single with one out in the inning and David Christensen batted him home on a RBI double. Christensen advanced to third on the play when the Beach Bums unsuccessfully tried to throw out Yakubik at home.

Nick Akins tied the game after Seth Schwindenhammer walked by driving Christensen home from third on a RBI double, making it a 2-2 ballgame after the top of the fifth inning.

Traverse City responded however in the home half of the fifth inning, retaking the lead by scoring three more runs. Beach Bums' first baseman Chase Burch highlighted the scoring by hitting a two run home run, bringing home himself along with Vargus. Carlo Testa also scored in the inning making it a 5-2 Traverse City lead after five innings.

Both squads were held scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings, however, after Joliet went quietly in the top of the eighth, Traverse City exploded for seven more runs to put the game well out of reach for the Slammers.

Zach Kometani highlighted the scoring with the second two-run home run of the night for Traverse City. It was a 12-2 Beach Bums lead after eight innings.

Slammers went in order in the ninth and Traverse City cruised to victory in game one of the three game series.

The Slammers will try to rebound in game two on Saturday, first pitch is at 6:05 central time and the pre game show is at 5:50 p.m. on 1340 WJOL and on wjol.com.
