Joliet Slammers News Release
(Traverse City, MI) - The Joliet Slammers (11-15) dropped the second game in a row, this time by a score of 6-2 to Traverse City (15-11) as the offense could not produce enough on Saturday.
Like in game one on Friday, Traverse City scored first, this time on a solo home run from Taylor Wrenn in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Beach Bums a 1-0 lead.
Joliet's offense was held in check for the first three innings but in the top of the fourth inning, Joliet tied the game at 1-1.
Michael Wing reached safely on a one-out double and David Christensen batted Wing home on a double of his own, putting the Slammers on the board.
Joliet would take the lead in the sixth after a scoreless fifth inning.
Nate Wilder led off the frame with a double putting a runner in scoring position for Wing. Wing laid down a fantastic bunt and Traverse City starting pitcher Johnny Omahen fielded the ball and instead of holding it, Omahen tried for a miraculous glove flip that ended with the ball sailing over the head of first baseman Chase Burch, scoring Nate Wilder on the play and handing a 2-1 lead to Joliet.
The Slammers could not hold onto the lead as the Beach Bums immediately took the lead back in the home half of the sixth.
Much like the big eighth inning for the Beach Bums in game one, Traverse City had a huge inning in sixth sending 10 batters to the plate.
Carlo Testa got things going for Traverse City with a one-out walk. Zach Kometani followed by tying the game 2-2 on a RBI triple, scoring Testa from first base. Marcus Nidiffer then hit Kometani home on a single giving the Beach Bums a 3-2 lead.
Traverse City score two more runs in the inning, one on another RBI single, this time from D'Marcus Ingram and the fourth run coming on a bases loaded walk to Jose Vargus giving the Beach Bums a 5-2 lead after six.
Traverse City would add one more run in the home half of the seventh, extending their lead to 6-2 and that would end up being the final as Joliet was held scoreless the rest of the way.
The Slammers will try to salvage the finale of the series on Sunday. First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. central time and the pre game show is at 3:50 p.m. on 1340 WJOL and on wjol.com.
