
Wild Things Drop Series Finale to ThunderBolts, 6-2

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, fell to the Windy City ThunderBolts in the series finale on Saturday night, 6-2.
Wild Things starting pitcher Jhonny Montoya (1-1) pitched the first five innings of the game, giving up no runs. Montoya allowed four hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.
Reliever Ryan Thomas (0-1) made his professional debut tonight for Washington, but lasted just one-third of the sixth inning. Thomas allowed two runs while he was on the mound, and walked three. Davis Bilardello took the mound in relief with the bases loaded and allowed a grand slam to the first batter.
Newly-signed relievers Mark Williams and Gary Lee made their Washington debuts tonight. Williams pitched the eighth inning and allowed no hits, with one strikeout. Lee pitched the final inning, allowing no hits.
Windy City scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning. Designated hitter Derek Shepherd's sacrifice fly drove in center fielder Brandon Anderson. Catcher Zack Aakhus advanced to home on an error and right fielder Chase Porch hit a grand slam to left field.
Washington scored their only runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Third baseman Kevyn Feiner drove in left fielder Derek Perren on a sacrifice RBI, and shortstop Zack Stanton drove in right fielder Luis Rivera to cut the lead to four.
ThunderBolts starting pitcher Matt Costello (2-1) pitched six innings. Costello allowed four hits and no runs, while walking one walk and striking out six. Reliever Kevin Frymier pitched the final two innings for his team, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Washington travels to Traverse City tomorrow for a three-game series with the Beach Bums beginning at 5:05 p.m. Pre-game coverage starts at 4:55 p.m. on WJPA 95.3 FM. The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park for nine games in 10 days, beginning on Wednesday, June 22, at 6:35 p.m. against the Rockford Riverhawks.
