Florence Y'alls News Release

The Freedom scored the go-ahead run on a ninth inning Gateway error in a 10-9 win on Saturday night at GCS Ballpark. Florence lost a five-run lead but won the game in the ninth for the second straight night to take the rubber match and three game series from the Grizzlies. The Freedom return home for a three-game homestand starting on Sunday.

The Freedom jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind the bat of Chris Curley. Friday night's hero built on his performance with a two-run homer in the first inning off of Grizzlies starter Blake Barber. In the second, Curley hit a bases-loaded double to score two. It gave him seven RBI in his last three at-bats, including his go-ahead three-run homer in the ninth inning on Friday.

Florence's lead was erased by the Grizzlies who scored a pair of runs in the second and fourth innings against Freedom starter Chris Ingoglia. Johnny Aldaz hit a two-run single in the second and Jeremy Cresswell blasted a two-run homer in the fourth to tie the game at four. The tie was quickly broken by the Freedom in the fifth, as Stephen Shults hit an RBI double and Jimmy Baker followed with a three-run homer to give the Freedom an 8-4 lead.

John Malloy's RBI single in the seventh inning gave Florence their biggest lead at 9-4. The Grizzlies began their rally in the bottom of the inning, as Evan Button hit a two-run homer off of Chris Ingoglia to cut the lead to three. Joe Tarallo came on in relief and allowed an RBI double to Joe Agreste to cut the lead to 9-7. With two out, Junior Arrojo's fielding error plated another run and pulled Gateway to within one.

Gateway tied the game in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Tyler Heil. For the second straight game, the Freedom would win it in the ninth. Reliever Nick Walters walked Juan Valdes and made a throwing error on a pick-off move that moved Valdes to second. He issued an intentional walk to Baker and walked Rundle to bring Justin Holloway to the plate with the bases loaded and two out.

Holloway hit a grounder to short and the flip to second for the force was bobbled by Gateway second baseman Evan Button, allowing Valdes to score the go-ahead run. It was the Grizzlies' seventh error of the game.

Corey Martin pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fifth save of the season. Chad Robinson (2-0) gave up one run in 1 2/3 innings for the win while Walters (0-1) took the loss.

The Freedom return home on Father's Day to start a three-game homestand against Southern Illinois. Tim Holmes will be on the mound for the Freedom with first pitch at 6:05.
