Rascals Win in Marion

River City Rascals News Release


Marion, Ill. - River City scored 10 runs on 13 hits and Josh Lowey (2-2) scattered 10 hits in six innings of work to pick up the win while allowing three runs as the Rascals ended the Miners' eight-game win streak with their first regular season victory at Rent One Park since September 5th, 2009 in a 10-4 win.

The Rascals (17-10) led 3-0 after the third when Jareck West hit a two-run homerun to right after he scored the first run in the second on a lead-off triple and RBI single from Bobby Burk. River City tacked on two more runs for a 5-0 lead in the fourth before the Miners (20-7) got their offense rolling in the fifth.

Southern Illinois scored three runs on four hits to close the gap to 5-3 but Chad Maddox line a homerun to left in the seventh for a 6-3 lead. Stephen Holdren put the game away in the eighth with his eighth homerun, a grand slam to center, that gave the Rascals the 10-3 lead.

Brandon Cunniff and Kirkland Rivers pitched scores frames in the seventh and eighth before the Miners would tack on their last run in the ninth off Ryne Miller.
