Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Winston-Salem, NC - Dale Mollenahuer scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Winston-Salem a 3-2 walk-off win over Myrtle Beach on Saturday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Mollenahuer reached on a one-out, bunt single and a throwing error by Pelicans pitcher Craig Kimbrel on the play allowed Mollenahuer to end up at third base. Next, Kimbrel got Justin Greene to strikeout swinging on a high fastball that got away from catcher Jesus Sucre, which allowed the winning run to score.
The Dash broke the scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning when third baseman Brent Morel reached on an error and catcher Logan Johnson walked. Right fielder Salvador Sanchez followed with an RBI single that scored Morel and put the Dash in front 1-0.
Sanchez helped maintain the one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth when he gunned down Jesus Sucre at plate when he tried to score from third on a potential sacrifice fly. The play ended the inning and Myrtle Beach's lone scoring threat of the night.
A pair of doubles in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed Winston-Salem to add a run as Morel scored Justin Greene with his team-leading 60th RBI of the season.
The lead held until the ninth inning when Dash closer Santo Luis walked Michael Fisher and gave up a two-run blast to Cody Johnson to knot the score at two. It was Johnson's league-leading 26th home run and 71st RBI. It was the seventh blown save of the season for Luis (5-4), who ended up collecting the win after tossing two innings of relief.
Pelicans starting pitcher Erik Cordier pitched well as he allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits, but matched his season-high with six walks. Kimbrel (0-2) surrendered the unearned run to end the game and took the loss.
