Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Dash vs. Pelicans
TONIGHT'S PROBABLES
W-S: RHP Johnnie Lowe (7-4, 4.31) VS. MB: RHP Erik Cordier (4-4, 3.59)
Lowe is making his 19th start of the season and facing his favor- ite team for the fourth time. He is a perfect 3-0 against Myrtle Beach after defeating them in his last on July 20 when he al- lowed 3 runs (1 ER) on 8 hits in 7 IP. He did walk a batter and struck out six. In 23 IP, Lowe has limited the Pelicans to 6 ER on 19 hits with just 3 BB and 13 K. Lefties are hitting .320 against the right-hander, but righties are at a .240 clip.
Cordier has struggled against Winston-Salem including a loss his last time out against the Dash when he surrendered 7 runs (4 ER) on 5 hits in just 2.2 IP. The right-hander has had difficulty at home going 2-3 with a 4.97 ERA in 9 starts, but has excelled on the road with a 2-1 record and a 2.08 ERA in 7 outings. Cor- dier was acquired in a trade from Kansas City for Tony Pena Jr. in 2007.
Pelican Punched... - Myrtle Beach got a strong outing from Jacob Thompson and smacked four home runs to bury Winston-Salem 10-1 on Friday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Thompson (4-2) was solid in six strong innings to earn his second straight win over Winston-Salem. He held the Dash to one run on three hits with five strikeouts to help the Peli- cans claim the opener of this three-game series. The Pelicans flew out to a quick lead as C.J. Lee deposited the first pitch of the game from Jacob Rasner over the left field wall for a solo home run. The early round-tripper would be a sign of things to come for Dash hurlers, who surrendered 17 hits for the game.
Myrtle Beach added another run in the first on an RBI ground out by Donell Linares. An inning later, Chad Lundahl delivered a run-scoring single to give the Pelicans a 3-0 lead.
Myrtle Beach turned to the long ball again in the third as Gerry Rodriguez hit a solo shot to push their lead to four. A Dash error and a wild pitch accompanied by back-to-back RBI singles from Michael Fisher and Linares in the top of the sixth helped extend the Pelicans advantage to 7-0.
The Dash finally put a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning courtesy of an RBI single by third baseman Brent Morel, but Myrtle Beach answered right back in the next frame as Jesus Sucre launched a solo home run off Tyson Corley.
Cody Johnson bashed a two run shot off Nate Jones, his league- leading 25th home run of the season in the eighth inning to give Myrtle Beach a 10-1 lead.
Rasner (3-2) worked 5.1 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits with four walks and suffered his second consecutive loss to Myrtle Beach.
The Untouchables... With Mark Buehrle's perfect game on Thursday, the Chicago White Sox organization has enjoyed four no-hitters (two per- fect games) on four separate levels this season. Dash starter Levi Maxwell tossed a seven-inning no-hitter against Wilmington on June 19. Aaron Poreda twirled a rain-shortened five-inning no-no for Double-A Birming- ham on May 4 and Triple-A Charlotte's Carlos Torres worked a five-inning perfect game that was halted by rain on June 18.
Home Sweet Home... Winston-Salem concluded their nine-game road swing at 5-4 and claimed two of the three series. They lost 2 of 3 to Salem before taking games one and three of the Kinston and Myrtle Beach series. Overall, the Dash are 23-24 away from home this season.
Hit Parade... Myrtle Beach swatted 17 hits, including four home runs in last night's 10-1 win over the Winston-Salem in the series opener. It is the most hits the Dash have allowed this season, topping the 16 hits Wilming- ton registered on April 26 and the Pelicans tallied on May 21.
