Frederick Keys News Release
The Frederick Keys and the Lynchburg Hillcats split their double-header on Saturday night. The Keys took game one by a final of 3-2. The Hillcats ended up winning game two in eight innings, 4-3.
The Keys got all the offense they needed in game one from one swing of the bat. With two on and one down in the first, Frederick C Caleb Joseph drilled a three-run homer to left, putting the Keys atop 3-1.
The Hillcats cut into the deficit in the second. LF Jared Keel led off the second inning with a solo homerun, pulling Lynchburg to within one.
That's all the Hillcats would get in game one, however. RHP Eddie Gamboa pitched three scoreless innings of relief to pick up his second win of the season. LHP Jeff Locke took the loss. He surrendered all three runs in 2/3 of an inning, dropping his record to 2-8.
The back end of the double-header was a tightly contested game as well. The game was scoreless headed into the fifth, when the Hillcats got on the scoreboard. C Kris Watts led off the inning with a fly ball to right field. Keys RF Billy Rowell misplayed the ball, allowing Watts to get all the way around to third. DH Kent Sakaboto doubled, knocking in Watts, and giving the Hillcats a 1-0 lead. The next batter, LF Jared Keel walked. A batter later, 3B Eddie Prasch hit a two-run double, giving Lynchburg a three-run lead.
The Keys, however, tied the game up in their half of the fifth. 1B Wally Crancer led things off with a double. RF Billy Rowell knocked him in with an RBI-single, pulling the Keys to within two. CF Matt Angle followed that up with a single of his own. SS Pedro Florimon then knocked them both in with a two-run double, tying the game three.
The game stayed tied until the eighth. Runners in first and second and two down, Lynchburg 1B Matt Hague grounded a single into left, scoring the go-ahead run.
RHP Harvey Garcia picked up the win for Lynchburg, his first of the season. LHP Jake Stevens took the loss for Frederick. RHP RJ Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth, picking up his 19th save of the season.
The Keys and the Hillcats will play the rubber game of this three-game set Sunday evening at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. For ticket info, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
