Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans welcomed 28,143 fans to BB&T Coastal Field from July 18 to July 23, establishing yet another six-game homestand attendance record, the team announced today.

Hosting a six-game stay that began with a rare Saturday evening series opener against the Winston-Salem Dash on July 18, the Pelicans broke an attendance record for the fourth time in the last month. The team's new six-game mark shattered the previous mark of 24,024 set just over a month ago from June 15 through June 21. The team averaged over 4,690 for each contest, and three of the six games featured crowds of over 5,000 fans.

Again, Pelicans fans responded to a myriad of promotions over the course of the homestand. Myrtle Beach kicked off a three-game series with Winston-Salem with the second ZOOperstars! appearance of 2009 at BB&T Coastal Field. The Pelicans followed that with the biggest crowd of the homestand and ninth biggest crowd of all-time for Sunday's middle game. Atlanta Braves' right-hander Tim Hudson made his first rehab start since 2008 "Tommy John" surgery in front of 5,832 and delighted those in attendance by tossing two hitless innings. The following night, the Pelicans brought back the ever-popular Kids Eat Free Night promotion presented by Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society. Well-fed kids and adults alike enjoyed the club's Big Truck night for the series finale with Winston-Salem as well.

As Myrtle Beach welcomed the Wilmington Blue Rocks to the Grand Strand, the promotions continued with another edition of the club's Team Tuesday Poster Series giveaway for the Pelicans-Blue Rocks July 21 opener. A special Wee Wednesday fireworks promotion coincided with Myrtle Beach Guide Night for the middle game of the series, and another monster crowd turned out for Thirsty Thursday. To go along with dollar drafts from 5:30 to 7:30, Pelicans fans again got to see a big league all-star as Hudson made his second appearance of the homestand. For the final game of the stay, a raucous 5,432 fans packed BB&T Coastal Field.

In addition to the two six-game homestand marks broken since mid-June, the Pelicans broke the franchise's four-game figure from July 2 through July 5 in a series with the Frederick Keys that included the club's first ever Fourth of July home game. That homestand also broke the seven-game homestand record from July 2 through July 9.

Following a six-game road trip with stops at Winston-Salem and Potomac, the Pelicans return home to open the month of August with a four-game series against the Kinston Indians beginning Tickets are available for the six-game homestand at the BB&T Coastal Field box office, by calling the Pelicans at (843) 918-6000 or by visiting the Tickets page at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
