Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - A fast start to the season has brought immediate recognition for one Wenatchee Wild player, with the announcement Monday afternoon that forward Oscar Lovsin has earned the Western Hockey League's Rookie of the Week award for the week ending on September 24. Lovsin was chosen for the honor by the league office, making him the first Wenatchee Wild player to earn weekly honors from the WHL.
Lovsin has gotten his season and his WHL career off to a roaring start, posting two goals and two assists this past weekend in games Friday against the Portland Winterhawks and Saturday against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Both of those goals and one of the two assists came in a 6-5 comeback win Friday night, including the team's first goal of the season at the 11:15 mark of the first period. He was named the First Star in Friday's game. Coincidentally, Lovsin also scored the first Wenatchee goal in preseason play September 6 at the Spokane Chiefs. He added an assist Saturday in a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds.
The 2006-born native of Calgary, Alberta made his WHL debut Friday night, after being selected by the Winnipeg ICE in the sixth round of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. Lovsin notched 28 points for the Calgary Northstars U18 team in the Alberta Elite Hockey League last season, and previously attended the Edge School in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. His two goals and four points are both tied for the team's best mark after the opening weekend of the regular season.
After opening the season with a pair of home games, Wenatchee embarks on its longest road trip of the season, playing eight games in seven cities before returning home on October 20. First up on the road swing is a visit to the Everett Silvertips on Friday night, with the opening puck drop at Angel of the Winds Arena set for 7:05 p.m. Live coverage is available on Newsradio 560 KPQ and WHL Live.
Wenatchee's return to home ice sees the Vancouver Giants come in for the team's Wild About Awareness Non-Profit Night on Friday, October 20, while the Brandon Wheat Kings come to Wenatchee for Healthcare Workers Night the following evening. Tickets for those games and all Wenatchee Wild home regular-season contests are on sale now at 509-888-7825, or by visiting the team office at Town Toyota Center. Updated news and information on Wild hockey are always available through the team's website and on the team's social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
