WHL Brandon Wheat Kings

Hyland Returned from NHL

September 25, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB - The Brandon Wheat Kings flexed their offensive muscles on opening weekend, scoring 15 goals in two games. Today, they found out they've got even more firepower on the way.

The Washington Capitals have reassigned forward Brett Hyland to Brandon after the opening weekend of their training camp. Hyland was their 7th round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

Last season, Hyland was one of the Black and Gold's most dangerous goal scorers. He posted 26 goals in 42 games before suffering an injury, a number that led the Wheat Kings at the time.

The 20-year-old forward has also drawn praise for his hard nosed style and workmanlike approach to the game. It was his breakout season last year that put him on Washington's radar and led to him being an NHL selection.

In a separate move, the Wheat Kings also announced they have released defenseman Eastyn Mannix to pursue other hockey opportunities. The Wheat Kings wish Eastyn the best, and would like to thank him for his hard work during his time in Brandon.

These two roster moves leave the Wheat Kings with 16 forwards, seven defensemen, and three goaltenders on their roster heading into week two of the WHL Season.

Upcoming Schedule:

Wednesday, September 27th vs Prince Albert Raiders (Willie Wednesday | $2 hot dogs | $10 all-in child tickets)

Friday, September 28th at Moose Jaw Warriors

Saturday, September 30th vs Swift Current Broncos (Truth and Reconciliation Night)
