WHL Announces Weekly Award Winners

Calgary, Alta. - Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince George Cougars forward Zac Funk has been named Tempo WHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 24, 2023.

Funk led all WHL skaters with seven points (3G-4A) this past week, recording a hat-trick and five-point effort as part of his two appearances with Prince George to begin the 2023-24 WHL Regular Season.

The product of Coldstream, B.C. began his week Friday, September 22 with five points (3G-2A), including his first career WHL hat-trick, as the Cougars blanked the Tri-City Americans 9-0 to kick off a two-game home series.

Funk's first goal stood up as the game-winner, while he also finished the evening with six shots on goal, a +5 rating and First Star honours.

The following evening, the 20-year-old recorded two assists as Prince George dropped a 6-4 decision to Tri-City.

Funk was originally selected in the second round of the 2018 WHL Draft by the Calgary Hitmen and was acquired by the Prince George Cougars via trade in January of 2023. In 162 career WHL regular season contests with the Hitmen and Cougars, the 6-foot-0, 210-pound forward has amassed 111 points (55G-56A).

Zac Funk and the Prince George Cougars are next in action Friday, September 29 when they open a two-game road series versus the Victoria Royals (7:05 p.m. PT, Save-On Foods Memorial Centre).

RAIDERS NETMINDER HILDEBRAND NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince Albert Raiders goaltender Max Hildebrand has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending September 24, 2023.

Hildebrand posted a 28-save shutout in his season-opening appearance, helping the Raiders claim two points in the Club's home opener Friday, September 22 versus the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Hildebrand, who hails from Martensville, Sask., earned his first career WHL shutout in Friday's victory and for his efforts, he was named the game's First Star.

During the 2022-23 WHL season, the 19-year-old appeared in a career-high 32 games for Prince Albert, collecting an 11-14-3-0 record along the way.

He was originally selected by the Raiders in the 13th round of the 2019 WHL Draft and in 38 career WHL regular season outings, Hildebrand holds a career 12-17-3-0 record, a 3.57 goals-against average, .877 save percentage and one shutout.

Max Hildebrand and the Prince Albert Raiders are next in action Wednesday, September 27 when they visit the Brandon Wheat Kings (7:00 p.m. CT, Westoba Place).

WILD FORWARD LOVSIN NAMED WHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

The Western Hockey League announced today that Wenatchee Wild forward Oscar Lovsin has been named WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 24, 2023.

The 17-year-old forward finished the week with four points (2G-2A) from his first two career WHL regular season contests, helping Wenatchee post a 1-1-0-0 record in two home contests.

Lovsin started his week by scoring the first WHL regular season goal for the Wenatchee Wild Friday, September 22 in a 6-5 victory over the Portland Winterhawks.

The product of Calgary, Alta. finished the evening with two goals and an assist and for his efforts, he was named the game's First Star.

The following evening, Lovsin chipped in with an assist as Wenatchee dropped a 3-2 decision to the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Lovsin, who checks in at 5-foot-10 and 149 pounds, was originally selected by the Winnipeg ICE in the sixth round of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.

Oscar Lovsin and the Wenatchee Wild are next in action Friday, September 29 when they visit the Everett Silvertips (7:05 p.m. PT, Angel of the Winds Arena).
