WhiteWings Take Game Two of Doubleheader from Colts

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings beat the San Angelo Colts 2-1 in seven innings in game two of a doubleheader Saturday at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings (17-24) got on the borad against Bryan Heaston (1-1) in the bottom of the second. Luany Sanchez led off with a double, moved to third on a single and scored when David Cardona dropped a fly ball in left field to make it 1-0.

With one out in the third, Griffin reached on an infield-single and moved to second on a throwing error. One out later, Sanchez hit an RBI-single to make it 2-0.

The Colts (21-22) responded against Andres Rosales (3-2) in the top of the fourth. Adam Hale walked, stole second, moved to third and scored on a pair of wild pitches to make it 2-1.

That was it against Rosales, who struck out seven in six innings while allowing two hits and two walks.

Anderson Garcia pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.

The WhiteWings and Colts play game four of this four-game series on Sunday at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6:05. Right-hander Miguel Matos (2-1) is expected to face right-hander Alex Morales (0-1).

The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas that has sent two players to Major League Baseball in Edwar Ramirez (New York Yankees) and Robinson Cancel (New York Mets). In its fifth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, Robstown and San Angelo.
