Roadrunners Drop Double-Header to Broncos

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped both games of the double-header to the Laredo Broncos with scores of 1-0 and 6-2 Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

In game one, Wardell Starling (5-1) and Juan Peralta traded zeros until the top of the seventh inning when the Broncos scored a run on a bases loaded walk to Kenneth Gilbert making it 1-0.

The Roadrunners (28-12) left runners at second and third in the bottom of the seventh as Maximinio De La Cruz picked up his first save of the season giving Laredo a 1-0 victory.

Peralta (4-0) picked up the win after pitching six and a third of scoreless baseball.

In game two, the Broncos (18-24) got on the board in the first against Robbie Nelson (0-2). Two passed balls allowed Jason Diaz and Ryan Flynn to score giving Laredo a 2-0 lead.

The Broncos sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the second inning and got RBI singles from Flynn, Kenneth Gilbert, and Salvador Paniagua extending their lead 6-0.

Alexis Hernandez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, his fifth of the season. Steve Rayburn got the final two outs of the inning giving Laredo the 6-2 victory.

The Roadrunners and Broncos will play the final game of this four-game series Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (4-2) is expected to face Maximinio De La Cruz (0-2) with the first pitched scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
