WhiteWings Drop Game One of Doubleheader to Colts

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings fell to the San Angelo Colts 8-3 in seven innings in game one of a doubleheader Saturday at Harlingen Field.

The Colts (20-21) struck right away against Luis Montano (3-3). With one out, Mark Ramos walked and Ronnie Gaines doubled, moving Ramos to third. A wild pitch scored Ramos and Jason Crosland hit an RBI-double. One out later, Josh Collazo hit an RBI-single to make it 3-0.

The Colts loaded the bases with one out in the second and scored two runs on singles by Crosland and Collazo to make it 5-0.

Crosland led off the fourth with an infield-single and moved to second on a throwing error. After a single moved him to third, Crosland scored on a double play to make it 6-0.

The WhiteWings (16-23) broke through against Brian Henschel (3-4) in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Roberto Rodriguez doubled and Javis Diaz hit an RBI-single to make it 6-1.

Collazo hit a two-run double in the top of the sixth to give the Colts an 8-1 lead.

Arlon Quiroz hit his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-2.

The WhiteWings added a run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI-single by Lunay Sanchez to complete the scoring.

The WhiteWings and Colts play game two of this doubleheader in approximately 30 minutes. Right-hander Andres Rosales (2-2) is expected to face right-hander Bryan Heaston (1-0).
