San Angelo Colts News Release


Harlingen, TX - Rio Grande Valley starter Misael DeJesus struck out 13 Colts in 6.2 innings of work in leading the White Wings to a 9-1 victory over San Angelo Friday night at Harlingen Field. The win was DeJesus' first of the season as he upped his record to 1-3 while allowing only four hits along the way.

Rio Grande got the scoing started in the third on a RBI double by shortstop Yeurys Tejeda. They added two mored runs in the fourth on a solo-homer by right-fielder Arlon Quiroz (4) and a RBI groundout by second-baseman Roberto Rodriguez as the White Wings jumped ahead 3-0.

The Colts scored their lone run of the game on a solo homerun by Josh Collazo (5) in the fifth inning to make the score 3-1.

But after DeJesus departed, the White Wings would score six runs in the seventh to put the game away. Catcher Luany Sanchez singled in a run off of Colts' reliever Tristan Gaines to extend the lead to 3-1. Three batters later, with the bases loaded and one out, designated hitter Welinson Baez (1) smacked a grandslam homer over the leftfield wall to bust the game open and give Rio Grande an 8-1 lead. The White Wings would add another run on an RBI single by Rodriguez to make the final score 9-1.

Baez went 2-4 with a single to go along with his grandslam for Rio Grande, while Quiroz went 2-4 with a homer and double. The Colts were led by Collazo who went 2-4 with a homer and single. Centerfielder Ronnie Gaines chipped in by going 2-4 for San Angelo with two singles.
