Broncos Record First Shutout of the Year; Defeat Edinburg 1-0

RHP Juan Peralta pitches 6.1 innings and picks up his fourth victory of the season 1-0 over the Road Runners in game one of the scheduled double header.

RHP Juan Peralta ( ), making his seventh start of 2010 squared off against RHP Wardell Starling ( ) of the Road Runners in game one of the scheduled double header.

The Broncos had their best chance to score in the top of the third when they had the bases loaded with only one out. Unfortunately Kenny Gilbert struck out and Salvador Paniagua flew out to end the threat and the game remained scoreless to the bottom of the third.

Peralta faced just eleven batters through the first three innings of the game, stranding runners on first and third in the bottom of the third to keep the game scoreless.

In the top of the fifth the Road Runners committed two errors in the inning to give the Broncos a base runner at third with two down. Kenny Gilbert; the Broncos leading RBI man was up to the plate. Gilbert ended the inning by grounding out and the game remained scoreless.

Through five full innings the Broncos had collected four hits, and the Road Runners had picked up only three hits against Peralta in the same period of a scoreless game in Edinburg.

In the top of the seventh inning the Broncos took a 1-0 lead. With one out Mike Murphy singled, followed by a Jason Diaz single. A passed ball charged to Osial Flored moved Diaz to second base. The Road Runners then walked Carlos Arroyo intentionally to bring up Kenny Gilbert. Gilbert picked up RBI 41 of the season by taking the walk and the Broncos had a 1-0 lead.

Peralta came out for his seventh and final inning of work. Peralta faced the first three batters, allowing a walk and a single after recording his fifth strikeout of the game. Manager Dan Firova went to the bullpen and brought in LHP (4-1) Brian Buchanan to face the lefty Robert Matlock. Buchanan retired Matlock and then gave way to RHP Maximinio De La Cruz (0-2) to finish off the Road Runners and pick up his first save of the year, stranding runners at second and third.

The Broncos and Road Runners close out the series tomorrow in Edinburg with first pitch at 7:05 PM before coming home and starting a nine game home stand against the Thunder at veterans Field.
