Roadrunners Tie Championship Series

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners tied the United League Championship Series at one game apiece by defeating the Fort Worth Cats by a score of 3-0 on Friday night at La Grave Field.

The game was tied at zero until the fifth inning when the Edinburg added a pair of runs to grab a lead when Tim Battle and Carlton Salters each hit solo homeruns to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead.

The Roadrunners (1-1) would make the lead last until the ninth inning when Derrick Pyles hit an RBI single that scored Tim Maitland to make it 3-0.

Fort Worth (1-1) only got three hits surrendered by the Edinburg pitching staff. Cameron Monger, Luany Sanchez, and Cody Bishop got the hits for the Cats.

Dan Schmidt (1-0) earned the win tossing six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out six hitters for Edinburg.

Aaron Wilkerson (0-1) took the tough luck loss for the Cats pitching eight and two-thirds innings striking out eight permitting three earned runs.

Alex Schmarzo earned his first save of the championship series tossing a scoreless ninth inning allowing two hits.

The Roadrunners and Cats will play game three of the best-of-five United League Championship Series on Saturday night with the first pitch at 7:05 pm at La Grave Field.
