Cats Shut Out in Game Two of ULB Championship
August 16, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release
One night after putting on an offensive clinic, the Fort Worth Cats' bats stalled in game two of the United League Championship series, as they fell to the Edinburg Roadrunners 3-0 Friday night at LaGrave Field.
The Cats (1-1) tallied all of three hits off the Edinburg (1-1) pitching staff and left 12 runners stranded on base as the Roadrunners tied the series 1-1.
Cats' starter Aaron Wilkerson had not allowed a base runner to reach base until Tim Battle and Carlton Salters each hit solo home runs in the fifth inning to put Edinburg up 2-0.
Edinburg starter Dan Schmidt was throwing a no hitter until Luany Sanchez broke up the party with a base hit in the sixth.
Fort Worth made some noise in the ninth inning as they loaded the bases on a walk and two singles as David Bergin came up to the plate.
However, Bergin grounded the second pitch of the at-bat sharply to third base for a game-ending, 5-3 double play.
The game was a polar opposite to Thursday night's affair as the Cats got 14 hits and put across 13 runs for the 13-2 victory in game one.
The teams square off for game three on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at LaGrave.
Tickets to all postseason games are $10 and can be purchased by calling (817) 332-CATS or by going online to FWCats.com.
