Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Tuesday the 23-man roster for the 2017 Canadian Championship semifinal second leg tonight against Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo (4:30 p.m. PT on TSN, TSN Radio 1410).
Included on the 23-man roster are Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) goalkeeper Sean Melvin, centre back Sem de Wit, midfielder David Norman Jr., and striker Gloire Amanda. The four USL players were all signed to short-term agreements for the second consecutive week after each was called up to last week's opening leg at BC Place. De Wit played the full 90 minutes in the home victory, while the other three were unused substitutes.
After last Tuesday's 2-1 first leg win at BC Place, Whitecaps FC can advance to their third consecutive Canadian Championship final with any win or draw in Montreal.
This year, a minimum of three Canadians must start for each team during every match of the Canadian Championship tournament. The 'Caps 23-man roster includes nine Canadians, eight of whom came up through the Whitecaps FC Residency program.
MLS clubs may sign players from their USL affiliate to short-term agreements (up to four-day contracts) for CONCACAF Champions League, Canadian Championship, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and exhibition matches. An MLS club may sign a player to a maximum of four short-term agreements each season (maximum of 16 days).
TRANSACTION: Whitecaps FC sign Sean Melvin, Sem de Wit, David Norman Jr., and Gloire Amanda to short-term agreements on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.
