Real Salt Lake News Release

SANDY, Utah- Real Salt Lake (4-8-2, 14 points, 10th West) hits the road to Texas this week, visiting Houston Wednesday night and playing at Dallas on Saturday prior to the early June FIFA window. RSL visits the Dynamo for a 6:30 p.m. MT kickoff on Wednesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium looking to win in South Texas for the third time in four years, as the club won in both 2014 and 2015 prior to last year's 0-1 loss.

Wednesday night's contest will be televised locally via KMYU (coverage begins at 6:00 p.m. MT on 2.2 air / 12 satellite / 643 Comcast HD) with David James and Brian Dunseth on the call, and can also heard live via RSL outlets ESPN700 AM (English radio coverage starts at 5:30 p.m. MT w/ Bill Riley, Jay Nolly, Spencer Warne & Jeremy Horton) & 102.3 FM / 1600 AM (Spanish, Fernando Hortal & Nelson Moran).

RSL hits the road fresh off back-to-back home wins for the first time this year, as Saturday's 1-0 victory over Philadelphia came on the heels of a 2-1, come-from-behind victory over NYCFC on May 17. Saturday's win saw FW Joao Plata find the back of the net for the first time this season, while the club notched its fourth shutout of the 2017 campaign.

Real Salt Lake improved to 4-5-0 in the new era under Head Coach Mike Petke with Saturday's 1-0 win over Philadelphia, as the first 45 minutes saw RSL pepper the Union net, unlucky to come away with only one goal. RSL DF Tony Beltran returned to action for the first time since March 18 to make his 228th career appearance - all with RSL, extending his league record for most with one club - while FW Jefferson Savarino assisted on Plata's goal. Savarino's helper marked his first-ever game-winning assist in MLS action, and the Venezuelan international's second assist in four games since joining RSL on May 9.

Rimando's clean sheet was his third of the year and the 132nd of his illustrious MLS career, as well as his 96th with the Claret-and-Cobalt. While Savarino will travel with RSL to Houston this week before returning to Salt Lake, Rimando has joined Bruce Arena's U.S. camp in Colorado prior to this Saturday's USA v. Venezuela match at Rio Tinto Stadium (8:00 p.m. MT kickoff, tickets available at www.RSL.com or by calling 844.Real.Tix.). The match will mark the first time that RSL teammates have opposed each other in international play on Utah soil.

This week's Texas trip should welcome the return to RSL for Captain Kyle Beckerman, who was suspended by Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee for Saturday's win over Philadelphia, as he was adjudged to be guilty of violent conduct in the 16th minute as part of a ball-winning tackle against Clint Dempsey in the May 20 0-1 loss at Seattle.

The 2017 Real Monarchs / USL season is ongoing, the third-year club still the highest-scoring team in the league with 27 goals scored in just 10 games, claiming second place overall in the USL with a 9-1-0 start and 27 points after Sunday's 2-1 road win at Vancouver. The Monarchs rode early goals from SLC native Taylor Peay and Captain Nick Besler to rush out to a 2-0 lead, while GK Lalo Fernandez and the defense held strong late to secure a club-record sixth consecutive victory. Head Coach Mark Briggs' team has allowed three goals in the last 404 minutes, and travels to face Orange County SC Saturday prior to a Rio Tinto Stadium return on Saturday, June 10.

The Rio Tinto Stadium box office is open Mon.-Fri., 10a-6p; more information can be found online at www.RSL.com/Tickets. Current or interested RSL Royalty Season Ticket Members can purchase extra tickets at preferred pricing or gain assistance via the Fan Relations Hotline at 801-727-2702.

Coming in late Summer, 2017, the Zions Bank Real Academy opens in Herriman, Utah, approximately 20 minutes southwest of Rio Tinto Stadium. The $60 million facility will serve as the daily training home beginning in 2018 for both of the club's professional teams - RSL (MLS) and Real Monarchs (USL) - while centralizing the club's U-18, U-16 and future U-14 development academy youth selections. Including the 5,000-seat Zions Bank Stadium as well as the Zions Bank Training Center, the Herriman campus will provide adjacencies for an on-site charter school opening this Fall, with STEM disciplines (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) for nearly 300 boys and girls. In mid-November in North Logan, Utah, RSL Owner Dell Loy Hansen broke ground on the first of a half-dozen regional training centers across Utah and Arizona to be built in the next 2-3 years. Each $5 million RTC houses a classroom, as well as an indoor and outdoor field, dedicated to fulfilling a curriculum consistent with the club's vision and mission for youth soccer training and education, and the continued development of both recreational and competitive pre-Academy (ages 7-12) initiatives across Utah and Arizona.
