Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC have loaned out Homegrown midfielder David Norman Jr. to Scottish Championship side Queen of the South FC through the end of 2018, the club confirmed on Saturday.
"David has the right attitude and approach at training, and it was good to see him make his first-team debut in July," said head coach Carl Robinson. "Gordon Forrest is very familiar with the coaching staff at Queens and their work with younger players. This loan is a great opportunity for David to continue his development in an unfamiliar environment."
Queen of the South are managed by former Scotland national team player Gary Naysmith and assistant manager Dougie Anderson. 'Caps assistant coach Gordon Forrest and Anderson have worked together at the Scottish FA. Based out of Dumfries, Queens are four matches into the 2018-19 Championship season, currently sitting in third place with a 2W-1L-1D record.
Norman made his first-team debut in the 2018 Canadian Championship, starting the semifinal first leg against Montreal Impact on July 18.
Born in New Westminster and raised in Coquitlam, Norman has Scottish roots through his father and namesake, David Norman. The elder Norman was born in Scotland prior to moving to Canada, and playing for Vancouver and the Canadian national team.
The younger Norman signed an MLS contract prior to the 2018 season. Last year, the WFC Residency product was named 2017 Whitecaps FC 2 Player of the Year after leading the USL side in assists, chances created, and duels won.
