Two Montreal first-half set-piece goals snapped New York's six-match unbeaten streak as the Impact (11-14-3, 36 pts) defeated the Red Bulls (17-7-4, 55 pts), 3-0 on Saturday night at Saputo Stadium.

Despite the loss, the Red Bulls clinched a spot in the 2018 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with a New England tie against Portland.

New York heads to the postseason for the ninth consecutive season, the longest streak out of all major New York metro area teams.

The Red Bulls are now 39-44-18 all-time in the month of September. New York has scored 148 goals while allowing 165 during the eighth month of the year.

Montreal tallied back-to-back set piece goals late in the first half by Rod Fanni and Bacary Sagna to build a 2-0 lead at half.

The Impact's Ignacio Piatti put the nail in the coffin with a stoppage time goal in the 93rd minute of play.

For the first time in 42 matches across all competitions, New York lost by more than one goal in a match since September 30 against Toronto, 4-2.

New York will have a week off for the September FIFA break before heading on the road to face D.C. United on Sunday, Sept. 16 at Audi Field. Coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIn.
