Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - David Ousted is headed to the 2015 MLS All-Star Game.
It was announced today that the Vancouver Whitecaps FC goalkeeper was named to the 22-man gameday roster as selected by Colorado Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni, who will serve as this year's MLS All-Star coach.
The MLS All-Stars will go up against English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, July 29, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Colorado (6 p.m. PT kickoff on TSN). Ousted has played a big part in Vancouver's success so far this season - the 'Caps are currently tied for second in the Western Conference and third in the MLS Supporters' Shield race.
The 30-year-old Dane has already turned in several spectacular performances, including on June 20 when he saved two Bradley Wright-Phillips penalty kicks. Earlier in the year, he also made waves across MLS with a diving, goalline save on Philadelphia's Andrew Wenger.
After 20 matches, Ousted leads MLS with 10 wins and has the second highest shutout total with seven. He's also won a league-high four Save of the Week awards, including three in a row during a period in June and July, and was the MLS Player of the Month for June.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound goalkeeper has now started 68 consecutive MLS matches for Whitecaps FC, including the MLS Cup Playoffs. Prior to joining the 'Caps in June 2013, Ousted spent three seasons with Danish Superliga club Randers FC, where he earned 35 clean sheets in 103 appearances.
Ousted is the third Whitecaps FC player to make the MLS All-Star team. Jay DeMerit was the first back in 2012, when he helped lead the MLS All-Stars to a 3-2 win over Chelsea. The following year, Camilo appeared for the MLS All-Stars in a 3-1 loss to AS Roma.
The 22-man roster for this year's team is comprised of 20 players selected by Mastroeni, taking into consideration the Fan XI and MLS player voting, as well as the two commissioner's picks.
Ten players from the Fan XI were named to the gameday roster: DaMarcus Beasley (Houston Dynamo), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Kaká (Orlando City SC), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), David Villa (New York City FC), and Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City).
Joining the Fan XI are 10 additional standout stars:
Forwards: (3) Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC), Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy), Kei Kamara (Columbus Crew SC)
Midfielder: (1) Fabian Castillo (FC Dallas)
Defenders: (5) Chad Marshall (Seattle Sounders FC), Laurent Ciman (Montreal Impact), Drew Moor (Colorado Rapids), Tony Beltran (Real Salt Lake), Chris Tierney (New England Revolution)
Goalkeeper: (1) David Ousted (Vancouver Whitecaps FC)
Rounding out the roster are the two commissioner's picks: Steven Gerrard (LA Galaxy) and Frank Lampard (New York City FC).
