Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - Montreal Impact defender Laurent Ciman has been named to the MLS All-Star game day roster by head coach Pablo Mastroeni for the 2015 AT&T All-Star Game, to be played against English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspurs, on Wednesday, July 29, at 9pm (EDT), at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, in Colorado.
"I am very pleased," said Ciman. "This recognition means that I've played well and I hope to continue doing so and progress. I think I can still reach a higher level here, and I will continue to work hard to get better."
Ciman has distinguished himself on the Impact's backline since his arrival in January, starting 15 regular season games for 1,350 minutes of play. He scored his first career goal in MLS on May 16 against Real Salt Lake, before recording his first career assist on June 13 at New York City FC. He's missed only one MLS game while on international duty with the Belgian national team. He was named twice to the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Week and also appeared once on the bench.
He helped the team reach the CONCACAF Champions League final, starting all six games in the knockout round, and also started both games of the Amway Canadian Championship against Toronto FC.
Ciman becomes the third Impact player to be selected to the AT&T MLS All-Star Game, following striker Marco Di Vaio and midfielder Patrice Bernier. Both players faced A.S. Roma in 2013 in Kansas City.
At the international level, Ciman is a regular with the Belgian national team since 2010, making, his official debut with the Red Devils on May 19, 2010 against Bulgaria. He was on the roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He's played nine games so far, including four qualifiers for Euro 2012. He also participated in the 2007 U21 UEFA Championship with Belgium and suited up for his country at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, with the U23 team.
