Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Monday the club has acquired $125,000 in General Allocation Money from Columbus Crew SC in exchange for goalkeeper Evan Bush. Vancouver will retain a portion of Bush's 2021 salary budget charge. This transaction was part of Major League Soccer's half-day trade window on Sunday.
"Evan was only with us for a short period of time; however, we are very thankful for his contributions. He arrived in Portland at the end of September and helped us in a very unique season where we had to use six different goalkeepers on our match day rosters," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC CEO and sporting director. "As part of our conversations in bringing Evan to the club, he expressed his desire to possibly return closer to home at the end of the year. All parties are pleased with this outcome and we wish him all the best in Columbus."
Following long-term injuries to goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau and Thomas Hasal, Whitecaps FC acquired experienced keeper Bush via trade from Montreal Impact for Vancouver's natural third-round selection in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft back on September 28. The 34-year-old product of Cleveland, Ohio was the fourth keeper to start a match for the club in 2020 and posted a record of 4W-4L-0D in the final eight games.
"Max and Thomas continue their recoveries from their respective injuries and both keepers are on target to be fit and available at the start of next year's preseason camp," added Schuster.
