Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC today announced that the Club has acquired goalkeeper Evan Bush from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for $125,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). Bush brings nine years of Major League Soccer experience for Crew SC, having previously played for the Whitecaps FC and the Montreal Impact. Whitecaps FC and the Impact will retain part of Bush's club salary budget charge. This transaction was part of yesterday's MLS half-day trade window. The Club will announce its annual roster press release with 2021 details later today.
"We are pleased to welcome Evan to Columbus," said Crew SC President & General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "Evan is a talented goalkeeper whose significant experience in MLS will be a great addition to our team. We look forward to integrating him into the team and seeing him push our goalkeeping corps as we prepare for the 2021 season."
An Ohio native, Bush last played for Vancouver Whitecaps FC during the second part of the 2020 MLS season. Prior to that, he played for the Montreal Impact from 2012-2020, helping the Impact win three Canadian Championships (2013, 2014, 2019). In all, the goalkeeper has made 184 appearances (all starts) in MLS regular-season action, posting 41 shutouts.
Bush also brings Concacaf Champions League experience, having made 13 appearances (all starts) for the Montreal Impact while posting five shutouts. Notably, the goalkeeper was a member of the Impact squad that reached the 2014-15 final of the tournament, with Bush earning the Concacaf Champions League Golden Glove for his performances.
At the collegiate level, Bush played for the University of Akron from 2005-2008, posting 62 wins and 48 shutouts. During his time with Akron, the goalkeeper earned the 2005 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Newcomer of the Year award and was named to the following Best XI teams: NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region (2008), All-Ohio Teams (2008), All-MAC First Team (2006-2008) and the Freshman-All American Team (2005).
