Whitecaps Enjoy an Easy Win 7-3

CLINTON, IA - Joe Tucker led off the game with his first professional home run and Michael Bertram broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh with his first homer of the season as the Whitecaps defeated Clinton for the third day in a row, 7-3.

West Michigan has won 14 of its last 16 meetings with the LumberKings, including eight straight at Alliant Energy Field.

Duane Below pitched 6.1 innings with one run allowed on five hits and nine strikeouts to improve to 10-5. Below has taken over the Midwest League lead in strikeouts with 139.

Tucker finished 3-for-5 in the game with the home run, a double and three runs scored.

James Skelton doubled twice for the Whitecaps and drove in three runs. Jeramy Laster went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a hit by pitch and a run scored.

Dan Fyvie pitched 2.1 innings of relief for West Michigan and allowed two runs. Brett Jensen threw a scoreless ninth.

Marcus Lemon tied the game in the fifth inning on a bases loaded single to left, but Laster, the left fielder threw out Josh Bradbury at home as he tried to score from second base with the lead run.

K. C. Herren (2-for-4) was the only LumberKing with two hits. He also walked once and scored once.

Must Be a Big Number: On Thursday, the LumberKings re-instituted the policy of not releasing their paid attendance to the media until the day following the game.

One More in Iowa: The last of 16 regular season games that the Whitecaps will play in Iowa this season is Friday in Clinton. RHP Lauren Gagnier (4-11, 4.97) will be on the mound for West Michigan against LHP Zach Phillips (10-4, 2.93) for the LumberKings. First pitched is slated for 8:00 p.m. Michigan time.
