Smit to High-A; Gressick Returns to Dayton

Dayton , OH - The Cincinnati Reds have announced the promotion of LHP Alexander Smit to the Sarasota Reds of the Florida State League, and the return of RHP Anthony Gressick to the Dragons active roster. After being claimed off waivers from the Minnesota Twins organization, Smit pitched in five games for the Dragons, all as a starter. The Netherlands native went 2-2 with a 1.19 ERA in those five starts, allowing just three earned runs in 22.2 innings of baseball. Smit struck out 19 and walked eight in his brief time with the Dragons.

Gressick had been terrific for the Dragons in July, posting a 2-0 record and a 1.99 ERA during the month to earn a promotion back to Sarasota. Gressick had pitched in two ballgames with the Sarasota Reds before joining the Dragons in mid-April, compiling a 15.43 ERA in 2.1 innings. Since being promoted, Gressick appeared in three more games at the high-A level, allowing five earned runs in 4.1 innings.

For the Dragons in 2007, Gressick has a 4-6 record and a 5.29 ERA in 21 games. In 68.0 innings of work, Gressick has allowed 63 hits and has struck out 59 while walking 35. The right hander from Ohio University never settled into an exact role with the Dragons, making a starting appearance eight times while coming out of the bullpen for his other 13 appearances.

The Dragons active roster is at 24 players, one below the league maximum.
