
Wheeling Claims 4-2 Win at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio - A three-goal outburst from the Wheeling Nailers in the second period was too much for the Cincinnati Cyclones in a 4-2 verdict Tuesday nighta t U.S. Bank Arena. A goal and an assist from Ned Havern provided the impetus for the victory.
The Cyclones opened the scoring 68 seconds into the game, when forward Mike Wirll rifled home his league-leading 42nd goal of the season. Travis Lisabeth added the assist on the goal. It was the fourth time in the last five games that Cincinnati scored a goal in the first three minutes of a game. The shots favored Wheeling, 10-7, in the opening period.
In the second frame, Wheeling collected three goals to open a 3-1 lead. Ned Havern picked up his 15th goal, on the power play, at 4:07. Sean Collins gathered his 19th at 13:26 and Vin Hellemeyer tallied his fourth at 17:02, a shorthanded effort, to establish the lead.
In the third period, Matt Rogers netted his fourth goal of the season for Cincinnati, with Barett Ehgoetz and Greg Stewart collecting the assists at 1:57, to close the gap to 3-2. An empty net goal by Jordan Cameron with 51.7 seconds to play iced the game for the Nailers.
The Cyclones are now 34-24-3-2, leaders of the North Division lead by three points over Dayton. Wheeling is 26-31-2-4 on the season, sixth-best in the North Division. The Cyclones travel to Trenton for a Saturday night (March 24) 7pm contest.
Prior to tonight's game, the Cyclones received defenseman Nick Martens from Bridgeport (AHL), where he appeared in seven games over the last month. Martens played seven games for Cincinnati from Feb. 4 through Feb. 17 before his assignment to Bridgeport. Nick had a goal and four assists for five points with the Cyclones before his departure.
