Checkers' Lee Named In Glas Co Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Charlotte Checkers forward Mark Lee is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Mar. 12-18, 2007.

The Mount Pearl, Newfoundland native had two game-winning goals and 12 points (4g-8a) as the Checkers went 3-1-0 and moved into a tie for the fifth and final Kelly Cup Playoffs berth in the South Division.

After registering four assists in a 7-4 win against first-place Gwinnett on Mar. 13, the 22-year-old scored a season-high five points, including his first hat trick of the season with all three goals, including the game winner, scored on the power play in a 6-3 win at Columbia on Mar. 16. He scored the game-winning goal on the power play and had an assist in a 6-1 win against second-place Florida on Mar. 17 and extended his scoring streak to six games (4g-11a) with an assist in a 3-2 loss at Columbia on Mar. 18.

The 5-foot-11 and 184-pound Lee leads the Checkers with 43 assists and 63 points (20g-43a). He is tied for fifth in the ECHL with six game-winning goals and tied for seventh with 25 power-play assists while he is tied for 12th in assists and tied for 20th in points.

Lee was selected to play in the 2007 ECHL All-Star Game, but was not able to participate after being called up to the American Hockey League by Hartford where he had two goals and six penalty minutes in eight games from Dec. 26-Jan. 26.

In his third professional season and under AHL contract to Hartford, Lee had 25 points (6g-19a) and 30 penalty minutes in 36 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) and two penalty minutes in one Kelly Cup Playoff game with Trenton while also playing in the AHL where he had one goal and 10 penalty minutes in 27 games with Bridgeport. He played his rookie season in the United Hockey League where he had 67 points (20g-47a) and 65 penalty minutes in 78 games with Kansas City in 2004-05.

Before turning professional, Lee played two seasons in the Maritime A Junior Hockey League where he had 63 points (52g-37a) and 84 penalty minutes in 52 games for Amherst. He also played one season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he had 25 points (11g-14a) and 53 penalty minutes in 65 regular season games and seven points (0g-7a) and eight penalty minutes in 11 playoff games for Prince Edward Island.

On behalf of Mark Lee, a case of pucks will be donated to a Charlotte area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 15,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
