Kenny Smith back from loan to Hartford

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced that defenseman Kenny Smith was returned to the team being released from his Professional Tryout (PTO) agreement with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

Smith, 25, has skated in 53 games with the Checkers notching eight assists and 79 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pounder from Stoneham, Mass. is in his third professional season after playing four years at Harvard University. Smith was member of the 1998-99 and 1999-00 U.S. Jr. National Teams. Smith was a third round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft (84th overall).

The Checkers are on the road tonight, Friday and Sunday. The Checkers return home next week with games Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The first 3,000 fans on Thursday will receive set two of the Checkers "Limited Edition" Trading Cards presented by LastMinuteGolfer.com. Saturday features Dusty Jamieson bobblehead dolls to the first 2,000 fans presented by Presbyterian Hospital and team dentist Dr. Larry Seitlin.
