Wheaties Off To Cartwright Wednesday
November 3, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings may have returned from their season high 7-game, thirteen day western road swing but they won't have too much time to relax before beginning preparations for this weekend's games against Prince Albert and Medicine Hat on Friday and Saturday nights.
As well, several members of the Western Hockey League club will be busy at various events throughout western Manitoba this week.
Newly acquired Paul Van de Velde will be joined by goalkeeper Andrew Hayes and Dallas Stars' first round draft pick Scott Glennie in Cartwright Wednesday night as the brand new Clipperdome plays host to November's Source for Sports - Coca Cola Minor Hockey Caravan.
In addition to skating with members of Cartwright Minor Hockey, the Wheat Kings will be signing autographs and distributing tickets to the players, compliments of our two presenting sponsors.
On Thursday, the Precision Toyota Community FJ Cruiser will be heading out to Elkhorn for another CIBC Read to Succeed visit. Veterans Colby Robak and Paul Ciarelli will be reading to the elementary students and fielding questions from the others.
The CIBC Read to Succeed program emphasizes the importance of reading, receiving a good education and performing to the best of your abilities. The players will be promoting the message that reading is not only a critical skill, it's a tool that can deliver exciting adventures and open up a world of opportunities for students.
In order to recognize students achieving their specific classroom goals - such as reading a particular book, completing an assignment, teachers will present them with complimentary tickets to an upcoming game, compliments of CIBC. The players will also be distributing Wheat Kings' Bookmarks to those in Elkhorn School.
Rounding out a busy week will be appearances at both Can Skate sessions at the Keystone Centre this week. Dallas Ehrhardt, Jay Fehr and Brodie Melnychuk will be there on Tuesday, November 3rd with Mark Schneider, Klarc Wilson and Mark Stone making an appearance on Thursday, November 5th.
The Wheat Kings, who compiled a 4-2-0-1 record during their recent 7-game trip, enter the week with a 10-7-0-2 record, good for 22 points and a tie with Moose Jaw for second place in the WHL's Eastern Division.
Tickets to this weekend's games are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, located in the Pioneer Lounge, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
