Wheat Kings Come Back to Defeat Rebels 6-4

On a beautiful Saturday in Central Alberta, the Rebels entertained the Wheat Kings one week after losing 7-1 in Brandon.

FIRST PERIOD

The Rebels opened the scoring on their first shot on goal. Adam Musil lifted a high shot past the glove of Wheaties goalie Logan Thompson for his third goal of the season. Mason McCarty and Devan Fafard assisted on the 1-0 goal at 5:51.

Evan Polei gave the home side a 2-0 lead with a crafty tip-in of a Brett Cote point shot at 11:28 of the opening period. Presten Kopeck earned the second assist on the powerplay marker.

SECOND PERIOD

Brandon got on the board in the opening minute of the middle frame when Kale Clague, son of former Rebels goalie Jason, scored his first WHL goal. Colton Waltz and Reid Duke assisted on the 2-1 goal at the 50-second mark.

The Rebels replied with two quick goals to pull ahead 4-1. Musil set up Grayson Pawlenchuk for his second of the season at 5:23, Haydn Fleury also with an assist. Wyatt Johnson snapped home his second of the year at 6:06 with Nick Charif and Cote getting the assists.

Brandon drew within 4-2 at 10:15 when Jesse Gabrielle snapped his sixth goal of the season past Rylan Toth. They made it 4-3 with Peter Quenneville's powerplay goal, his first goal of the season, at 11:34. Tyler Coulter capped off the Wheaties comeback with his fourth goal of the season as 12:12, Brandon's third goal in 1:57 of play.

The 4-4 goal chased Rylan Toth from the Rebels net, replaced by Taz Burman.

Jace Hawyrluk scored Brandon's fifth goal of the period at 16:23 to give his squad a 5-4 lead.

THIRD PERIOD

Toth was backin net for the Rebels to start the final period.

The only goal of the period came when Coulter put home an empty netter at 18:52 for a 6-4 final score.

NOTES - Adam Musil extended his points streak to four games... Rebels scratches for the game were Jeff de Wit, Brayden Burke, Cole Chorney, Hugo Jansons and Kolton Dixon.

NEXT GAME - The Rebels entertain the Victoria Royals on Tuesday, October 14 at the Enmax Centrium. Game time is 7 p.m. with tickets available through Ticketmaster.
