Americans Halt Pats 3-1 for Third Straight Win

Regina, SK- The Tri-City Americans (6-3-0-0, 12 pts) made it three straight wins on Friday night, taking down the Regina Pats (4-3-1-0, 9 pts) 3-1 in front of 3,680 fans at the Brandt Centre.
The teams traded shots early, but the momentum went Regina's way midway through the first period. Regina's Dryden Hunt scored off of a deflection to put the Pats ahead 1-0. The Americans fought back following the goal and finally broke through late in the period. Tri-City got a power play opportunity, with Parker Bowles one-timing a shot into the net after a nice pass from Beau McCue to tie the game at one. The Americans were outshot 14-5 by the Pats in the first period, but the game was tied going into the second period.
In the second period, the momentum shifted into the Americans direction. Tri-City took the lead in the second period as Jackson Playfair beat Regina goaltender Daniel Wapple on his glove side to make it 2-1 Americans. The Americans had the shot advantage in the period 14-5, and carried some momentum heading into the third period.
Regina fought hard in the third period to get the tying goal, peppering Eric Comrie with shots consistently throughout the third period. But the Americans were able to generate a chance and put the game away. Braden Purtill fired a shot from just in front of the blue line through traffic and into the goal to put the Americans ahead 3-1 with 4:57 left in the third period. Regina tried to get a goal and back into the game, but Comrie was good down the stretch to help the Americans to the win.
The Americans win ends Regina's five-game point streak. Both Beau McCue and Parker Bowles have recorded three points in the last two games. Ty Comrie tallied his first and second assists of the season.
The two teams were physical this game, but there wasn't a lot of action in the penalty box. The two teams combined for 20 penalty minutes, including nine Americans penalty minutes. Tri-City converted 1-of-3 power play chances, while Regina converted 1-of-2 chances with the man advantage.
Eric Comrie turned in another solid performance, stopping 29 shots in the win. Pats goaltender Daniel Wapple made 27 saves in the loss.
Tri-City will wrap up the Eastern Canada road trip this Saturday, Oct. 11, against the Swift Current Broncos (5-5-0-0, 10 pts) at the Credit Union iPlex. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Americans won the lone meeting in Kennewick last season, 4-1. Fans can watch the game through WHL Live or at Kimo's, the Americans home away from home. The game will be broadcast on NewsTalk 870, starting at 5:45 p.m. The Americans will be back home at the Toyota Center next Friday, Oct. 17, against the Everett Silvertips.
