Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Buffalo, New York - Weston Wilson made history as he slugged his 30th and 31st homers of the season, setting a new single-season mark for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (74-60, 38-23) in an 11-2 win over the Buffalo Bisons (68-66, 39-25) on Friday night at Sahlen Field.
Wilson got the ball rolling not with a homer but with a productive out in the first inning. After Kody Clemens doubled and stole third, Wilson scored him with a groundout.
Wilson's seminal moment came in the second. With a runner on, Wilson smashed a ball over the fence in left-center for his 30th of the season, a new franchise single-season record, surpassing Rhys Hoskins who had hit 29 in 2017.
The IronPigs added three more in that second inning as Aramis Garcia ripped an RBI double and Jim Haley plated two more with a double of his own.
The Bisons got on the board with a run scoring wild pitch in the fifth, but Wilson cancelled out that run with an RBI base hit in the top of the sixth.
Luis De Los Santos scored a run with a single for Buffalo in the last of the seventh to move them to within five at 7-2. The Bisons then loaded the bases, but Taylor Lehman came on and got out of the jam with no further damage.
Wilson provided some breathing room in the ninth when he slugged his second two-run homer of the day, giving him six RBI in the game. Cal Stevenson added an RBI single later in the frame and Jim Haley drove in a run with a fielder's choice to make it 11-2.
Lehman (2-0) was credited with the win for the IronPigs, getting two outs, striking out one without allowing a baserunner or conceding a run.
Wes Parsons (8-3) suffered the loss for the Bisons, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out four in three innings.
The IronPigs and Bisons continue their series on Saturday, September 9, with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m. at Sahlen Field.
