Westchester Knicks Take Down BayHawks
March 5, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
ERIE - The Westchester Knicks (23-16), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, came away with a 98-94 road win tonight over the Erie BayHawks (11-28), the Orlando Magic's affiliate.
It was a slow first quarter for both sides, with each team shooting under 40 percent and struggling to find shots from downtown. Trading leads five times, Erie came out of the first twelves minutes with a small two-point advantage.
Knicks guard Travis Trice II exploded in the second quarter for 18 of Westchester's 30 points. Erie gave up nine of their 26 points to turnovers but were ruthless under the rim, grabbing 19 rebounds to the Knicks' eight. Both teams continued to disappoint behind the arc, Westchester coming away with the two-point advantage this time, the score 49-47 at the half.
The turnovers continued for Erie as the BayHawks gave up another 10 points in the third. Both teams hovering at 50 percent shooting, the Knicks finally found success in threes, going 3-for-5 to hold on to the lead heading into the final quarter.
Westchester held the lead through the fourth quarter by as many as nine points. The BayHawks made it interesting at the end, coming within two with 24.6 seconds on the clock, but Jordon Crawford sank both free throws from an Erie foul to make it a two-possession game once again. A drawn out finish gave way to the Knicks, who won it 98-94.
Travis Trice II finished with a game and new career-high 29 points to go with five assists and four steals. Keith Wright notched his first double-double as a Knick, collecting 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Bachynski just missed one himself, with 11 rebounds and nine points, while Jordon Crawford and Ra'Shad James both came off the bench to tack on 12 points each.
Branden Dawson came off the bench to pace the BayHawks with 22 points, just missing the double-double with nine rebounds. Dewayne Dedmon had a staggering 22 rebounds to go with 17 points and three blocks for an impressive night. Keith Appling provided 16 points, Jordan Sibert with 10.
The Westchester Knicks are back home at the Westchester County Center tomorrow, March 6, facing the Maine Red Claws at 5:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on MSG 2 and on the NBA Development League's YouTube channel.
