Maine Red Claws guard Corey Walden scored a game-high 29 points to lead Maine to a 122-106 win over Raptors 905 Saturday afternoon at Hershey Centre in Mississauga.
Raptors 905 led 17-13 midway through the opening quarter, but the Red Claws finished the frame on a 16-4 run to lead 29-21 after one period. Maine stayed hot to begin the second quarter, going on a 20-7 run in the first half of the frame to go up by 21 points before Raptors 905 finished the quarter strong to get the game back with 14 points at halftime, 70-56.
In the third quarter, Raptors 905 went on a 23-5 run to go from down 16 to up by two with three minutes left in the period, but the teams were tied 84-84 heading into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, Raptors 905 led 97-95 with eight minutes to play, but a 19-2 Maine run over the next three-and-a-half minutes created a deficit from which the Mississauga club wouldn't recover.
Leading the Red Claws in scoring were Walden (29), Coty Clarke (18), Levi Randolph (18), Tim Frazier (17), Malcolm Miller (16) and Omari Johnson (11). Clarke had a game-high 11 assists and Frazier notched a game-high 11 rebounds to complete double-doubles. Scoring in double digits for Raptors 905 were Scott Suggs (26), Delon Wright (24), Shannon Scott (19) and Michale Kyser (15). Kyser added 10 rebounds for his first NBA D-League double-double.
Maine led Raptors 905 in field goal percentage (52.4-51.3), three point percentage (45.7-34.5), free throw percentage (85.7-63.6) and fast-break points (18-5), while Raptors 905 held the advantage in points in the paint (56-52) and second-chance points (18-6).
Raptors 905 is back in action Friday, March 11 when it plays host to the Iowa Energy at Hershey Centre in Mississauga at 7:30 p.m.
