PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned defenseman Noah Welch to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced today by general manager Ray Shero.

Welch has appeared in 20 games this season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, recording five goals, 12 assists and 16 penalty minutes.

Welch, 24, has played in 22 games this season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has recorded one goal, one assist and 22 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-4, 218-pound native of Brighton, MA was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round (54th overall) of the 2001 Entry Draft.
