Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: The Senators (14-26-2-5, 35 pts.) returned from the mid-season break and won two straight games last week, including a 3-2 shootout victory over Springfield on Sunday afternoon.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2nd @ ALBANY (6-5 W):
The B-Sens traveled up I-88 to tangle with the River Rats, and the teams combined six goals in the final period in a thrilling, offensive battle. The Senators found themselves in an early hole, as River Rats center Jakub Petruzalek buried his third marker of the season past netminder JEFF GLASS. Just three minutes later, leading scorer Keith Aucoin made it a 2-0 game with his 13th marker. BOBBY ROBINS put the B-Sens on the scoreboard, as the 25-year-old snapped an eight game scoreless stretch with an even-strength tally at 2:27 of the second period. Following another River Rats marker, the B-Sens caught fire. All-Star center JOSH HENNESSY capped off the second period scoring with his 17th of goal of the year, a wrist shot from the left face-off circle. With Albany holding the 3-2 lead early in the final stanza, defenseman NEIL PETRUIC fed a wide-open CORY PECKER who slipped it past River Rats' netminder Justin Peters to knot the game at 3 all. ANDREW EBBETT broke that tie just sixty seconds later, as the center stole the puck and advanced on a solo rush into Albany's zone, beating Peters with a short-handed tally. EBBETT was in position to net another short-handed marker two minutes later, breaking free from the Rats defense on a solo rush. He was awarded a penalty shot after the Rats defense intentionally prevented his solo rush. EBBETT made good, giving the Senators a 5-3 lead. Albany just wouldn't go away on Friday night, as Mike Angelidis slipped one past JEFF GLASS at 15:27 to bring the Rats within one. DANNY BOIS didn't waste any time shaking the rust off after missing six games with a head injury, as the winger answered the Angelidis marker with one of his own, once again giving Binghamton a two-goal advantage. BOIS' goal stood as the game winner. The Rats did slip one more marker past GLASS before the final horn. GLASS earned his sixth victory of the season, as the 21-year-old stopped 34 shots. EBBETT was first star for his two-goal performance, while defenseman NEIL PETRUIC finished the night with two assists.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4th vs. SPRINGFIELD (3-2 SOW):
Eight of the B-Sens' 46 games had gone into the shootout entering Sunday, and the club thrilled fans with a 3-2 victory over Springfield as forward RYAN VESCE scored both shootout markers to push the Senators past the Falcons. VESCE leads the AHL in shootout markers with eight. JF DAVID opened the scoring for the B-Sens, as the defenseman smashed a slap shot from against the left boards past netminder Karri Ramo at 6:49 of the opening period. Fellow defenseman RORY RAWLYK stretched the B-Sens lead to two goals with his first tally of the season at 4:50 of the third period. The 23-year-old blasted a one-timer from just inside the blue line past Ramo. The Falcons answered back on the power play two minutes later. Sylvain Dufresne blasted a shot off the chest of KELLY GUARD. Adam Henrich controlled the rebound and made a no-look backhanded pass in front of the crease to Marek Kvapil who put it into a wide open net to cut the lead to 1 goal. Eric Healey followed that up with a wrist shot that snuck past the left side of GUARD'S blocker to knot the game at 2 all. After a scoreless overtime session, the teams entered the shootout round. VESCE led off for the B-Sens, as the winger tapped the puck through the five hole past Ramo. After Kyle Wanvig scored in the third round for the Falcons, VESCE closed the door with his second shootout tally. The win marked the second in a row for the Senators. GUARD made 39 saves in earning his eighth win of the season.
THIS WEEK: The Senators play three games this week, including two against divisional rivals' Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Bridgeport. Binghamton welcomes the first-place Rochester Americans to the Arena on Wednesday night. The Senators then hit the road on Saturday, taking on the Penguins before heading to Bridgeport on Sunday for a matinee against the Sound Tigers.
