Kalamazoo, MI - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, dropped a 3-1 decision to the Kalamazoo Kings (17-26) in Kalamazoo, Michigan Thursday evening.
Washington starter Matt McDonnell took the loss and dropped to 3-3 on the season despite giving up no earned runs in six innings of work. Bake Leonards pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
The Kings scored runs in the fourth and sixth innings. In both innings, the Wild Things committed errors, giving Kalamazoo extra outs and allowing runs to score.
Kalamazoo pitcher and Washington native Denny McGee (4-6) got the win for the Kings, his second of the season against his hometown team. McGee pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking one.
The Wild Things' lone run of the game came in the eighth inning, trailing 3-0. Jason Kane reached on a fielder's choice and then scored on a Josh Loggins double and an error by Kalamazoo right fielder Walt Simmons.
The Wild Things (25-17) conclude the three game series and the road trip Friday in Kalamazoo before returning home Saturday to face the Richmond Roosters. Saturday's game will be televised on Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh and will feature Buffet Man Tom Watt. Game time is set for 3:35p.m.
