Warthogs First Baseman Micah Schnurstein Named Carolina League All-Star

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem first baseman Micah Schnurstein was recently named to the Carolina League All-Star team for the 2007 season. Schnurstein, who leads the league with 25 homeruns, is the lone representative from the Warthogs squad.

In addition to leading the league in round-trippers, Schnurstein currently paces the way with 82 runs scored and 65 extra-base hits. The former 7th round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2002 is also near the top of the league in hits (136), RBI (83), doubles (26) and slugging percentage (.520).

A native of Henderson, Nevada, Schnurstein spent the 2005 season in Winston-Salem, where he hit .265 with 15 HR and 68 RBI as a third basemen. In 2006, he spent the year in Double-A Birmingham where he also played third, but saw his offensive production decline to a .219 average with 9 HR and 46 RBI.

The White Sox decided to move Schnurstein to first base and return him to Winston-Salem this season to focus on his defensive skills. Not only has his offensive numbers been outstanding, but he currently leads all first basemen in the Carolina League with a .987 fielding percentage.
