Warriors Top Blades in High Scoring Tuesday Battle

Moose Jaw, SK - It was a wild night at the Hangar on Tuesday night as the Moose Jaw Warriors and Saskatoon Blades combined for 15 goals.

The Warriors prevailed, topping the Blades, 9-6, in the back-and-forth game.

"Proud of the group for sticking with it, especially in the third period, we were able to be better in the defensive zone and still go play in the offensive zone as well, so we're really happy with the result," Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.

With the win, the Warriors move one point back of the Blades for top spot in the East Division.

Jagger Firkus led the charge for Moose Jaw on the night, finishing with a hat trick and five points. The Seattle Kraken prospect now leads the entire Canadian Hockey League with 21 goals and 39 points in 19 games this season.

Dakota MacIntosh chipped in with his first two Western Hockey League goals and finished with three points on the night.

He said he's starting to find his footing after joining the team five games ago from the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

"It's definitely a lot faster, everything happens fast and those big plays that were open, they obviously aren't here, so it's definitely an adjustment," MacIntosh said.

"I feel really comfortable now, especially have two guys like that on my line, it's definitely really special, but at the end of the day, it's working out pretty well."

Lynden Lakovic opened the scoring 3:42 into the game with his eighth of the season.

Ethan Semeniuk put the Warriors in front by two only 2:44 later when he tipped home a shot in front for his second of the season.

Saskatoon answered back with goals from Misha Molotovskii and Egor Sidorov less than a minute apart later in the first period.

In the final minute of the opening frame, Brayden Yager found a loose puck and scored his 12th of the season to make it 3-2 for Moose Jaw after one.

Sidorov struck for his second of the night just over four minutes into the second to tie the game, but Moose Jaw went back in front when MacIntosh scored his first WHL goal only 2:05 later.

That started the wild second period which saw eight goals in total.

Saskatoon pulled even again on Brandon Lisowsky's power play goal 2:17 after MacIntosh's goal.

But the Warriors answered right back with MacIntosh getting his second and Firkus picking up his first of the night on 1:09 apart midway through the second.

Less than a minute later, Charlie Wright would get the Blades back within one and only 1:33 after that, Sidorov finished off the hat trick to tie the game at 6-6.

Again, in the final minute of the period, the Warriors would score again with Firkus getting his second of the night to make it a 7-6 lead for Moose Jaw after two.

The game tightened up in the third and the Warriors would seal the win with Firkus completing the hat trick into the empty net with 1:41 to play.

Martin Rysavy fired his fifth of the season into an empty net as well with 31 seconds left in the third to finish off the scoring.

Jackson Unger stopped 27 of 33 shots, while Austin Elliott allowed five goals on 21 shots before being replaced by Evan Gardner, who surrendered two goals on 17 shots.

Moose Jaw finished 2-for-5 on the power play, while Saskatoon scored three goals with the man advantage.

These two teams will meeting again coming up on Friday night in Saskatoon.
