
Cougars Host Giants for First Time this Season

The Prince George Cougars' three-game home stand continues this evening when they host the Vancouver Giants at 7:00 pm at the CN Centre.
The Cats are coming off their fourth consecutive home victory, with a 4-3 shootout win over the Red Deer Rebels back on Friday, November 10th in front of 4304 fans. Ondrej Becher led the way offensively for Prince George scoring twice, and added a shootout goal. Zac Funk had the other Cougar marker, and Koehn Ziemmer tallied in the shootout. Rookie goaltender Josh Ravensbergen earned his fifth win of the season, making 29 saves. "I don't think we had our legs and couldn't do much in the first two periods, but credit to our guys for finding a way in the final period, overtime, and the shootout to gut out a win," commented GM & Head Coach Mark Lamb following the victory.
The Vancouver Giants enter tonight's game against the Cougars with a 7-10-0-1 record and are most recently coming off a 6-2 setback to the Everett Silvertips on Saturday, November 11th. The Giants have been led offensively by blue-liner Colton Roberts who has collected 12 points in 18 games. The Giants also possess rookie forward and Prince George product Cameron Schmidt who is coming off a gold medal at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Schmidt scored the golden goal for Canada and finished the tournament with five goals in eight games.
CLOSING IN ON 100:
With his assist on Friday night vs Red Deer, Cougars captain Hudson Thornton drew just one assist shy of 100 for his WHL career and is looking to become the 18th player in Cougars franchise history to achieve the milestone. The most recent Cougar to record his 100th assist was Riley Heidt who did so in the 2022-23 season.
RILEY'S ROLLIN:
Forward Riley Heidt enter's tonight's game with points in ten consecutive games. The 2023 second round pick of the Minnesota Wild has collected four goals and 10 assists in that span. In the 2023-24 season, Heidt has compiled 27 points in 16 games.
