Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Moose Jaw, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors open a busy week with a big match-up against the Saskatoon Blades at the Hangar on Tuesday night.
This will be the first half of an extended home-and-home set between the two East Division rivals with Saskatoon hosting Moose Jaw on Friday.
Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said Moose Jaw will need to pay attention to the details against the Blades.
"Discipline within our structure, Saskatoon does that very well, they play a structured, disciplined game and just being patient with our process and not trying to force things that aren't there," he said.
"Saskatoon likes to prey on other team's mistakes and capitalize with opportunistic chances and if we just stick with our game plan and believe in our skill that it will be there in the end."
The Warriors enter the week sitting third in the Eastern Conference and are three points back of the second place Blades.
Moose Jaw came away with three out of four points last week with a win over Brandon and a shootout loss to the conference-leading Tigers.
Warriors defenceman Lucas Brenton said the team was pleased with how it bounced back in those two games.
"We played pretty hard, we definitely picked up the intensity compared to those games in Edmonton and Calgary," he said. "We just didn't put the puck in the back of the net, but we liked what we did on the ice."
The Warriors outshot the Tigers, 35-29, on Friday, but despite the loss, the team came away pleased with how they performed defensively against the Eastern Conference's top offence so far this season.
"I thought we played real well against a high powered offence," O'Leary said. "Didn't give a whole lot up five-on-five and when you get to a shootout, it's anybody's game after that, I though the guys played really well."
The Warriors won the only meeting with the Blades this season, topping them 3-1 in Saskatoon on Oct. 24, which snapped a six-game winning streak for the Blades.
Saskatoon enters Tuesday's match-up riding a five-game winning streak.
Brenton said the game will come down to effort.
"They come out and they check hard and they play as hard, so we just got to work harder then them," he said.
The Warriors and Blades meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
