
Warriors Sneak Past T-Birds

KENT - The Moose Jaw Warriors defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at ShoWare Center.
Noah Gregor scored the game winning goal for the Warriors on the power play at 1:14 of overtime. Gregor beat Seattle goalie Logan Flodell from the right circle with a wrist shot. Dryden Hunt and Brett Howden had the assists.
The T-Birds tied the game 2-2 at 18:27 of the third period on a coast-to-coast goal from Mathew Barzal. Jared Hauf passed the puck from behind the Seattle net to Barzal in the right circle in the Seattle zone. Barzal carried the puck up the ice and split the Moose Jaw defense at the blue line. Barzal deked left and slid the puck under Moose Jaw goalie Zach Sawchenko for the tying goal.
The T-Birds next game is Friday, December 4, at the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05pm. They return to ShoWare Center on Saturday, December 5, to face the Tri-City Americans at 7:05pm.
Seattle (16-7-2-0) took a 1-0 lead at 5:33 of the second period on a power-play goal from Ryan Gropp. Mathew Barzal passed the puck from the right hash marks to Ryan Gropp in the right circle. Gropp took a wrist shot that beat Moose Jaw goalie Zach Sawchenko over the blocker. Ethan Bear had the second assist on the opening goal.
Moose Jaw (13-9-4-1) tied the game 1-1 at 11:57 of the second. Tanner Jeannot scored off the rush when his shot deflected off a T-Bird defenseman and past Seattle goalie Logan Flodell. Jiri Smejkal and Josh Brook had the assists.
Seattle led in shots 20-17 after two periods by outshooting Moose Jaw 9-5 in the second period.
The Warriors took a 2-1 lead at 6:10 of the third period on a power play goal from Gregor. Mark McNulty and Brook had the assists.
Seattle outshot Moose Jaw 14-4 in the third period and 34-23 in the game.
Flodell had 20 saves and his record is now 10-4-2-0.
Sawchenko made 32 saves and improves his record to 10-5-2-1.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2015-16 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 am to 5 pm Saturday game days at 10 am and Sunday game days at noon.
